Underwater laser cutting tests are on-going within the demonstrator at Onet Technocenter, obtaining great technical and safety feedback. The guideline for the use of laser cutting in a reactor dismantling environment (D3.5) is now available to the public on the LD-SAFE project website (https://ldsafe.eu/project-deliverable/)!

This deliverable will guide future end users through key aspects of using the promising laser cutting technology. The first version of the guideline includes lessons learned from the in-air demonstrator, and a future revision will be published in 2024 to also reflect learnings from the underwater demonstrator.

Demonstrator at HERA Facility (CEA Marcoule)

In-air cutting tests are on-going within the demonstrator at HERA Facility (CEA Marcoule), obtaining great technical and safety feedback. Around 100 laser shots (more than 80 up to now) will be performed from 02/10/2023 to 24/11/2023. LD-SAFE will then proceed with the underwater demonstrator at ONET Technocenter (beginning of 2024). Keep posted to know more about the demonstrator’s progress.

The final version of the Generic Safety Assessment is now available in the LD-SAFE website. It includes the recommendations from the independent review performed by the IRSN. The deliverable aims to reduce the licensing effort and facilitate the safety case development for all future end users of the promising laser cutting technology. An important step is reached in the LD-SAFE project!

The 21st of June, 2023, a LD-SAFE project workshop was organized in Paris by Onet Technologies, bringing together all project stakeholders. The members of the European Consortium presented the results achieved by LD-SAFE over the last three years, as well as the upcoming activities:
